Chopin Concerts in Cracow

The composer Chopin had a Polish mother and French father, he grew up in Warsaw and is acclaimed by Poles as their greatest composer.

Regular concerts of Chopin music are held in various locations around Cracow. Tickets are sold in tourist information centres.

If you visit the salt mines at Wieliczka, 20 minutes drive south east of Cracow, Chopin's music is played at the underground lake during the tour and is a lovely spot to hear it.

Chopin concerts are widely publicised in Cracow, there are posters everywhere and leaflets are handed out in the street. A little culture can be pleasant when visiting one of the churches where the music is played.

For people disinterested in classical music, Cracow has a great jazz scene. The British violinist Nigel Kennedy, who married a Polish lady and now lives near Cracow, is also involved in the jazz scene.

A Klezmer music fastival is held in Cracow each year. Jewish Klezemer music is associated with Cracow's Jewish district, Kazimierz. Theere used to be a large number of Jews living happily side by side with Poles before World War II and a certain relationship remians.
